Steve Marcantonio, now a prominent audio engineer in Nashville, was an engineer on Lennon’s final session.
“I had just left him when he was shot,” said Marcantonio, who has worked with Vince Gill, Reba McEntire, Taylor Swift and many other Music City recording artists. “His death and life had a profound effect on me and the trajectory of my career.”
Marcantonio spent much of 2010 working on a collection of Lennon’s solo songs, sung by artists including Rodney Crowell, Foster and Lloyd, Jeff Hanna, Matraca Berg and Gretchen Peters. The project, called All We Are Saying, will be released in early 2011 and will benefit the Nashville Engineer Relief Fund, which supports audio engineers in Nashville.
“John had a real affinity for the sound engineer,” Marcantonio said. “He was really good to all of us and very respectful of us as we made records with him. He would definitely approve of this project.”
All We Are Saying will be distributed by Sweetwater Sound.
